About 1822 the Baptists organized a church at Mount Pleasant (now Utahville) named Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
As early as 1830 the community began use of the grounds adjacent to the church as a free public burial ground.

Citizens held a meeting and selected cemetery committee to take action to preserve graveyard May 26, 1909. Application for charter filed Feb. 7, 1916, advertised Mar. 11, 1916.
