Area's First Dead Home From Korea

Pvt. Aden H. Kuntz, Killed July 16, 1950, Due To Arrive In Sykesville Thursday

The body of Aden H. Kuntz, of Henderson Township, near Troutville, one of the early casualities of the Korean War, has arrived in New York and will reach Sykesville on Thursday for the section's first military burial of a victim of that war.

A native of Clearfield County, Pvt. Kuntz, 18, was stationed in the Philippines when the Korean trouble broke out and was among the earlier units to reach the battle lines. He was a member of Battery B, 52nd Field Artillery, attached to the Second Division, and was fighting with that unit when he was killed on July 16, 1950.

He was the son of Homer and Alice (Fillion) Kuntz and was born at Kerrmoor on May 3, 1932, being a member of a large family with three brothers also in the active military service.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by five brothers, Sgt. H. George Kuntz, with the U.S. forces in Korea; Staff Sgt. Clark W. Kuntz, with the U.S. Air Force at Savannah, Ga.; Cpl. Dwight H. Kuntz, with the U.S. Army in Australia; and Dan F. and John A. Kuntz at home; also eight sisters: Mrs. Mary Bundy, of DuBois; Mrs. Francis Cupler, DuBois; Mrs. Sarah Lash, Curwensville; Mrs. James Mains, Elyria, O.; Mrs. Ester Selfridge, of Trinidad, Col.; and Alice Nyra, Reta and Betsy, at home.

The body was scheduled to leave New York under military escort on Wednesday evening and will arrive in Sykesville at 1 p.m. Thursday. It will be taken to the Reed Funeral home, where it will repose until Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock when burial with military honors will take place. Rev. F. H. Baker, of the Baptist Church will conduct the services and interment will be made in the Troutville Reformed Cemetery.
