SOLDIER (Special) Mrs. Imogene Dolby of Soldier was notified by the Defense Department late Saturday morning that her son, Marine Pvt. Melvin Lester Dolby, 19, was killed in action April 7 in S. Vietnam.
The official telegram stated Private Dolby was killed while engaged in action against hostile forced in the Quang Tri Provence of S. Vietnam.
Private Dolby becomes the sixth DuBois area service man to die in Vietnam. The Welton Funeral Home in nearby Sykesville will be in charge of funeral arrangements.
Private Dolby was born in DuBois Sept. 20, 1948. He graduated from the Phillipsburgh Osceola Area High School in June 1967. He enlisted in the Marine in July 1967.
After taking boot camp training at Parris Island, S.C., Private Dolby received advanced training at Camp Lejeune, N.C. He was then sent to Camp Pendeleton, CA. from where he was sent to Vietnam December 1967.
He attended the Wesleyan Church here. Surviving are his mother, four sisters, Mrs. Carol Prisk, Kerrmoor; Mrs. Mary Travis, Morrisdale; and Vickie and Kathy Dolby at home; and three brothers, Joseph, William, and David, all at home.
Joseph, a senior at DuBois Area Senior High School, has enlisted in the Marines and will leave in July for boot camp, a Marine Corps spokesman stated.
