Area Veteran To Be Buried In Philipsburg
PHILIPSBURG - Military funeral services for Pfc. Alvin Earle Blakely, Jr, above, who was killed in action while serving with the Third Armored Division in Europe during World War II, will be conducted here Friday afternoon.
Enlisting in the Army October 13, 1943, he died in battle March 31, 1945 at the age of 28.
Surviving him is his mother, Mrs. Melva Blakely, 210 Spruce street, and his father, Alvin Earle Blakley, Sr., of Clearfield.
Also surviving him are two children, Judith Ann and Edward; a sister, Mrs. Leonard Goldstone, of Brooklyn, N. Y., and Mrs. Clara Bowman, grandmother.
The soldier's wife followed him in death three weeks later when she was killed in an accident.
Military rites will be conducted from the Ebock and Green Funeral Home here tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock.
Rev. John Stoner, pastor of the Firstt United Brethren Church, will officiate, aided by the combined Philipsturg veterans posts.
Interment will be made in the Philipsburg cemetery.
Friends may call at the funcrai home today from 7 p. m. until 9 p. m. and on Friday until time for the services.
